Trouble Showing Public Contacts in Contacts List

Posted by kevin on 19. February 2009 00:46

So, I came across an issue today where a user could not, no matter how hard we tried, get their Public Folder contacts to show up in his Outlook Contacts list. This doesn’t mean that he couldn’t get them to show in Address Book, that is a separate issue altogether (Right-click the folder, click Properties, click the Outlook Address Book tab, check the box that says “Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book”). Generally, when you want a contact folder to show up in the Contacts list in Outlook, you just right-click and select “Add to Favorites” and it will add it for you. This time both the user and myself could not make this work. After much searching, I finally found the answer. If you run the /resetnavpane command it wipes all of your favorites clean and allows you to start from scratch. It’s not fun to have to re-add all your other favorites again, but its a few seconds worth of work to get this working again. Here’s what you do.

Start | Run | Outlook /resetnavpane

That’s it. Seriously, that’s it. Very sweet.
